Postgraduate Studentships

Scholarships for International Students New scholarships for international taught students The University has launched a new scholarship scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate taught international students.

A maximum of seven studentships will be available in total. Senior management and sometimes the personnel manager will have the final say on funding for your professional development. Be sure that you are eligible for a studentship before going through the rigmarole of applying.

Residency eligibility criteria apply. Contact your education ministry for information on funding. If you are not sure which programme you should apply to, consult with your Director of Postgraduate Research Studies.

What other PhD funding is available? You are encouraged to make contact with a potential supervisor prior to applying and noting your interest of funding via the internal Scholarships and Funding AHRC application form.

The Wolfson Foundation awards funding to outstanding students who demonstrate the potential to make an impact on their chosen field.

Studentships are highly competitive as they often offer big financial rewards, so be prepared to go through a gruelling application process with little chance of success. A combination of full and fee only awards will be available. Scholarships A small handful of UK universities offer scholarships — you will need to research into if your chosen course or university offers this and apply as advised by that institution.

If you are from a European Union country, other than the UK, and you have been resident in an EU country for a period of three years preceding the start of your proposed study, you may be eligible for a fees-only award, which pays your tuition fees, but does not provide a maintenance grant.

Part time jobs Many part time postgraduate students fund their studies through a part time job. We regret that, due to the very high volume of applications, we cannot undertake to contact all unsuccessful candidates; if you have not received a formal studentship funding offer by 17th May this will indicate that you have not been successful in this competition.

Please see the University's Postgraduate funding page for full details. Faculty of Arts and Humanities There are no postgraduate research studentships available in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at this time. In addition to the research training that doctoral students complete in their home School and the advanced training provided by the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science, doctoral students at St Andrews have access to GRADskills — a free, comprehensive training programme to support their academic, professional, and personal development.

Please do check back regularly for future opportunities. It is anticipated that both scholarship-holders will be studying in an area of relevant to the interests and work of the Acton Society Trust and Ted Goodman, and that both will play an active role in the Morrell Centre for Toleration.

Visit How much can I receive? Many studentships will demand that you spend the money in very specific ways, for example just on tuition or on books.

For more information on this, please visit the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities website. How to apply Research Council grants are mainly distributed to university departments, so students should apply directly to their department for this funding.
