It also feels tough, durable, likely to last with little more than routine maintenance — only a complete optimist would expect the same daily reliability from an Italian V-twin. Anyone out there looking for a used VFR? The tank on the other hand, is flat and wide which is just perfect for a large tankbag. Suzuki seemed to aim for crazy with the TLS which — thanks to rotary rear suspension damper and a dollop of hyperbole as well as some well-publicised accidents was marked out as a bit of an animal. They — like the shock — were adjustable for preload and rebound only.
Cheers - boingk. Honda even took things a step further and built character into the bike. High-milers with more than 40k on the clocks are worth asking if the cam-chain and tensioner have been replaced. Aim to strip the motor down first and replace corroded bolts rather than buy a replacement. CLOCKS Later clocks on benefit from an LCD cluster which includes a clock and fuel gauge, but the layout is quite cramped and can make checking revs or speed a little more difficult. The front end is light, the power strong.
The engine runs so smooth, and possesses such a large displacement, you just select the speed and the bike complies - up to triple digit cruising. You'll be skimming tarmac with the front wheel up to kmh from a hard start, passing kmh in less than 4 seconds. Power and acceleration are insane - quoted quartermile times are in the high 10 second regions. I think Honda made another blunder by discontinuing this bike. Fuel range is a bit average, I tend to need to fill up around km or so but have pushed to km with 2L remaining in the tank - up to they only held

It also drinks fuel like crazy once you open the taps on those huge 48mm carbs. The used model featured here however looked and felt totally different, with the only change being a Def Leppard level Remus underseat exhaust system fitted. It also hasn't left me stranded on the side of the road.
The V-twin by the nature of it's design and pulsing produces a feel all it's own, yet somewhat subdued. Although it comes with a slightly soft suspension set-up as standard, the VTR has a pretty close to perfect balance in the real world, away from trackday lunacy. Looks awesome for year bike, good handling for newbie biker like me.
Sharp looking bike. Rear Shock Many owners replace with a Hagon or Maxton unit. With that all done and dusted I'll sign off by saying that no matter what I have to ride I keep on coming back to the VTR. A full set of braided hoses, calliper service and Brembo pads transformed the brakes from adequate to V good.
Top yoke is a rough aluminium cast affair. Suddenly Dr Honda had turned into Mr Hyde. It also feels tough, durable, likely to last with little more than routine maintenance — only a complete optimist would expect the same daily reliability from an Italian V-twin.
The Hawk likes to be setup before entering corners. It'll also wheelie very easily in first and second due to this, too. Alloy was getting furry on pipe joints here and there and the paint seemed dulled and lacklustre.
Sure it's so civil that it can be ridden by anybody, but wick it up and you'd better be ready. It's fast and fun, and the mix of effortless grunt and V-twin thump make it perfect for motorway cruises, or just hooning around. Standard exhausts too quiet and very heavy, but desirable for the all-important MoT are often junked.
Bought privately, History check came back clear. High-milers with more than 40k on the clocks are worth asking if the cam-chain and tensioner have been replaced.
I have a custom seat that's sculpted and has lettering stitched into it. Its a very clean example with 22k on the clock. But then people seemed to fall out of love with twins again. VFR 21 litre tanks can be made to fit but look ungainly. Too stiff a rear and the rear tyre loses grip when the engine fires you out of a corner Then the Firestorm is a deceptively fast bike, capable of getting you arrested very soon on the open road.Apr 04, · Honda VTR firestorm TRC is primarily funded by ad revenue.
If you If you hear a loud tapping noise at tickover, walk away. I thought mine was making this dreaded noise, but the Honda mechanic who had a listen said it sounded as it should and that the VTR engine is a noisy one anyway. In short, I can heartily recommend one. Find many great new & used options and get the best deals for Haynes - - Repair Manual at the best online prices at eBay!
